What causes hair loss?

What causes hair loss?

Genetics are the most common cause of hair loss. You can inherit baldness from either side of your family so don’t blame mom. Therefore, it is important to mention that a hormone imbalance must be identified before embarking on any treatment plan.

In addition, external factors can also play a significant role whether it’s pollution, using harsh chemical dyes, ironing your hair, and relaxers can exacerbate the situation.

Stress and or an unbalanced diet can also lead to additional hair loss. Sometimes hair loss can be a symptom of a more serious illness or nutritional deficiency or a metabolic disorder. For instance, one may have an allergic response triggering hair loss or a leaky gut syndrome.

There are more common causes including anemia from various disorders as well as hypothyroidism and adrenal stress, however, in men the primary culprit is DHT and because of that, there is a thrust of various medicinal treatments to block the effects of DHT — which is primarily hair loss.

Other causes may include:

  • Natural Aging Process
  • DHT
  • Stress and increased Cortisol
  • Diet and Nutrition
  • Pollution
  • Products and Styling
  • Free Radicals
  • Micro-inflammation
  • Metabolic
  • Endocrine
  • Auto Immune Disease

What to look for and how to identify early hair loss? ?

Early hair loss in men typically follows certain patterns whether it be a receding hairline or thinning of the crown.

In women it’s usually a little different and they can experience global thinning. Women that braid their hair for long periods of time or where tight ponytails may experience traction alopecia particularly in the temple area.
